Description 1

Submerged aquatic plant, apart from occasional floating leaves and flowers. Perennial. Erect stalks that are up to 10 m long, they are disperse and and white and reddish in colour. Leaves are very divided in filaments in the shape of a fan. Intense green colour. There are a pair of leaves in each node, which are arranged in an alternate way. The flowers appear in the apical part of the stalk and they are usually white, although occasionally pink or purple.

Biology 1

Propagation via cuttings, lateral sprouts after being cut. Also by means of seeds. The plant's fragments can survive floating freely for 6 to 8 weeks.

Habitat 1

Very sensitive to dessication, they require shallow, permanent waters. Also in ponds, lakes, reservoirs, swamps, trenches and canals.
