Description 1

Aquatic plant with horizontal, rhizomatous, stoloniferous stalks with radicant nodes. 15-45 mm long glabrous scapes opposing the leaves. Non-shield shaped leaves with thin stalks, some 3-40 cm long. Suborbicular to reniform leaves, 5-7 veins, emarginated base, riven until half way, 5-8 mm long. Simple umbles, 4-12 flowers, cream coloured petals, 0.4-0.7 mm long.

Biology 1

A species that grows vigorously, with sexual and vegetative reproduction (by stolons and stalk fragments). It prefers sunny environments and is resistant to frost.

Habitat 1

It appears in fairly eutrophic water that is quite shallow and flows slowly (backwater, irrigation ditches, lakes, canals, etc.). It prefers water with high levels of nitrate and phosphate and/or plant matter.
